DaVinci FireFly
Principal Industrial Design Consultant
For 7+ years, led design efforts for three generations of Da Vinci surgical robotic platforms (DaVinci S, Si and Xi) including instruments, disposables, accessories, resulting in award-winning products.
Served as the sole in-house industrial design consultant, providing consistent guidance and presentations to the leadership team. My role focused on shaping design direction and maintaining a cohesive visual language that reflected the core pillars of the brand.
Spearheaded the development of the new generation surgeon console, establishing ergonomic and work-flow standards for robotic surgery vision and end-effector manipulation.
Conducted full-scale prototyping to define and refine the surgeon console ergonomics, supported by extensive ergonomic research and prototyping throughout the product development process.
Generated concepts, renders, full-scale mock-ups, and animations to support initial concepts, which fostered collaboration and iteration within multiple product teams.
Developed and refined the visual language system and ergonomics.
Collaborated with external and in-house ME consultants on DFM best practices and refine the visual language system.
Continued refinement of design and provided comprehensive design process guidance to the multiple product teams.
Translated clinical engineering feedback into actionable product and/or work-flow improvements, ensuring alignment with user needs.
Regularly visited multiple vendors regularly to optimize and assure the design intent was followed, including industrial design, color, materials and finishes.
